Dubai Opera House in Downtown is the Broadway of Dubai

Formerly, when you travel to Dubai, you could experience many great things, but you regret not seeing an opera live on stage – at least not of such high quality, and to see operas, ballet or musicals, people usually traveled to New York, London or Vienna, but now it’s all here in Dubai. Of all the Dubai cultural initiatives that have been realized in recent years, you have not been as eager and eagerly awaited as the Dubai Opera.

Dubai Opera – Heart of Dubai Entertainment

The Dubai Opera is a unique venue in the heart of Dubai and the city’s first cultural center designed specifically to host events of all kinds, inaugurated at August 31, 2016. The Dubai Opera impresses with a unique design in the form of a so-called Dhaus, a traditional sailing vessel type of the United Arab Emirates. With a proscenium, a concert hall with first-class acoustics and an area of 2,000 m2, it offers maximum flexibility and is undoubtedly the best address for first-class entertainment productions and performances.

On the stage of the Dubai Opera, the most talented artists of the world are honored every day. Even if the focus is on opera, ballet and classical music, the Dubai Opera also offers space for musicals, fashion shows, jazz, comedy, family shows and lots of live entertainment.

Opera District, Downtown Dubai

Dubai Opera is a center for performing arts, located in the Opera District in downtown Dubai. The first opera house in the country has a seating capacity of 2,000 and features various forms of performing arts, such as theaters, operas, ballet pieces or concerts. Conferences and exhibitions also take place in the building. The opera house was designed by Janus Rostock of Atkins and is to represent a Dhaus – a traditional Arab sailing ship.

The Dubai Opera can easily compete with Broadway in Manhattan or London’s West End. Dubai has thus found its place on the world stage, thanks to the state-of-the-art venue for various theater formats in the new ‘The Opera District’. Technically speaking, the house is really at the forefront, whether it’s lighting, and its versatility for different styles or the equipment that fits seamlessly into the design and can be customized as desired. Until the grandeur launch of The Dubai Opera, the small and medium-sized productions dominated the theater scene of the various stages in the city, but now the emirate has a permanent place to realize Dubai’s vision of the best art center in the Middle East.

The Dubai Opera has surely succeeded in giving the emirates a new cultural radiance and credibility, with an international range of first-class events, from ballet to opera and theater to musicals.

More then a traditional theater

Dubai Opera can be transformed into a traditional theater, a concert hall, a banquet hall or even an exhibition space. Theater mode include operas, musicals, ballet pieces, dance performances, major drama productions, lectures and conferences. When the opera is converted into a concert hall, devices are installed on the stage to create an acoustic cover for the orchestra. In addition, reflectors are attached to the ceiling to improve the acoustics and reflect the sound. Whereas, in the ‘flat mode’, the venue offers space for events, such as weddings, trade fairs, exhibitions or receptions, where furniture can be delivered or dismantled accordingly.

The maritime motif is also carried on in the interior. The main stage, the orchestra ditch and the seating area are nestled in a ship-shaped arch. There is also a roof terrace and a sky garden. The back of the building arches like a ship’s hull and serves as a foyer, taxi and parking area. The stage area is designed in such a way that it can serve three different event forms smoothly: theater, hall or concert hall. This is where banquets, conferences or exhibitions can be held.

Prime Entertainment, Prime Location

The complex is located not only directly opposite the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain, but is also surrounded by art galleries, museums, design studios and other cultural centers. In the district there are also several hotels, residential buildings, a shopping center and recreation areas. Overlooking the Dubai Fountain and the Burj Khalifa, the building, inspired by the Arabian dwelling, is a real eye-catcher. Above all the outer form of curved glass surfaces is reminiscent of the traditional wooden boats that are so closely linked to Dubai’s maritime history.

The Dubai Opera is certainly the anchor of the project around the Opera District, which has become a luxury and lifestyle destination for cultural lovers in the heart of the city. The modern equipment of the opera attracts the world’s best ballet, opera and theater productions to the Middle East.
